In its time Carl Zeller’s operetta “Der Obersteiger” (The Pit Foreman) was almost as popular as the same composer’s “Der Vogelhändler”.

A comic tale set in a small mountain town in the first half of the 18th century, it received its premiere in 1894 at the Theater an der Wien, with the celebrated actor Alexander Girardi in the title role.

MUSIK THEATER SCHÖNBRUNN was presenting two concert performances of this delightful work.
